Achilles Olympic Gathering 2012 |
The Achilles Club Olympic Gathering will be held at the Royal Overseas League, Park Place, St James's Street, London SW1A 1LR, on Sunday 5th August 2012. The venue is a couple of hundred yards from the start and finish of the women’s marathon to be held that day. Achilles have TWO members running: Mara Yamauchi (Oxford - 6th in Beijing) and Claire Hallissey (Cambridge - first Briton in the London marathon this year). The last time we had two teammates in the same Olympic event was London 1948. Facilities at the Royal Overseas League will be available from 2.30pm onwards, so that members can begin to gather. A formal reception will start at 5 pm, and will include a celebration of past Achilles Olympians (about 175 members have to date won 52 medals, 19 of them gold - above), and buffet dinner. We will then watch live large screen TV coverage of the evening track and field session, which includes the men’s 100m finals and semi-finals.
